Ms. Chentsova specializes in civil law, investment, oil and gas, mining and
environmental legislation and private international law.
After graduation from the law department of Kazakh State University in 1981 she
stayed at the university to teach civil, economic and Roman law. In 1990, she
obtained a degree of the Candidate of Science in Law. In 1990-1991, she worked
as an advisor at the Supreme Arbitration Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From 1991 to 1993, she headed the legal department of Kazmetallexport, a
state-owned foreign trade company. Since Aequitas establishment in 1993, she has
been its Managing Partner.
For seventeen years Ms. Chentsova has been advising major international oil and
mining companies and leading domestic oil companies on the issues of subsoil
use, investments and contracts, civil, environmental and corporate legislation,
privatization, litigation and arbitration. Major international banks, financial
organizations, telecommunication and other companies are also among her clients.
Ms. Chentsova participated in several governmental working groups for
development of the important commercial legislative acts of the Republic of
Kazakhstan (including the RK Civil Code, Foreign Investment Law, Petroleum Law,
etc.). Within the framework of the Scientific Research Institute for Private Law
under the Kazakh State Law Academy (Private Law Center) she participated in the
discussions and preparation of proposals on improvement of the civil
legislation, including the Civil Code, Subsoil Law, Petroleum Law and a number
of other normative legislative acts.
Ms. Chentsova is an arbitrator of a number of the Kazakhstan and international
arbitration courts, including the Arbitration Commission under the Chamber of
Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan (since 1995), Arbitration
Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan (IAC), Kazakhstani International Arbitrage
(KIA), International Arbitration Tribunal of "IUS" Legal Center, International
Commercial Arbitration Court (ICAC), International Commercial Arbitration Court
of the Eurasian Center of Mediation Proceedings (ICAC of ECMP) and International
Arbitration Court under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz
Republic.
Ms. Chentsova is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA),
Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) and Vice-President of
the Kazakhstan Petroleum Lawyers Association (KPLA).
Starting 2002, Chambers & Partners has been listing her among the world's
