85th Anniversary of Maidan Kuntuarovich Suleimenov: International Civil Readings in Almaty

AEQUITAS expresses its heartiest congratulations to Maidan Suleimenov on the occasion of his birthday! We wish strong health, inspiration, new ideas, and further success in the development of Kazakhstan civil jurisprudence!

The international Research-to-Practice Conference "Civil Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan: History, Theory, Practice" was dedicated to this very significant occasion and held in Almaty on 1-2 October. The Conference was traditionally held in the form of civil readings housed by Research Institute of Private Law of Caspian University and united representatives of legal science and practice to discuss topical issues of development of the civil law of Kazakhstan.

One of the key topics of the Conference was the reform of the Civil Code of Kazakhstan and choice between complete recodification and more careful modernization of the current Code. The latter approach implies preservation of the functioning structure of the Civil Code and introduction of targeted but substantive changes.

Olga Chenstova, AEQUITAS Chaiman of the Board of Partners, joined to discuss this topic, which is of great importance for the legal system of Kazakhstan. She spoke about "Objectives of civil law in regulation of the legal regime of animals" and focused on the issues relating to the legal status of animals. During her speech, she mentioned an opportunity to introduce substantive amendments into the Civil Code, which would allow to reflect more clearly the specifics of animals as the subjects of civil regulation.

Ms. Chentsova also wished Maidan Suleimenov a happy 85th birthday on behalf of the firm. Following the long-standing tradition of AEQUITAS creative team, special congratulations were prepared for the anniversary celebrant in the form of poetry uniting legal humor with sincere and warm wishes.
